You can do this!!
The florals and phrase featured in this design were inspired by a thank-you card I received from Liz before she left for college. Each freshman at my school is assigned a senior NHS mentor, and Liz was a tremendous help as I transitioned to high school and then coped with the pandemic. Providing everything from essay feedback to emotional support, Liz believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I embroidered this crewneck to wear on rough days, when I need a reminder to be confident in my own capabilities.

I first became interested in embroidery during the pandemic. Although I did not have the proper materials, I was still able to execute the design I envisioned. Prior to this project, I already had some basic sewing skills; however, I was unfamiliar with the various types of embroidery stitches. The process of embroidering this crewneck excited my creativity as I realized the potential of a needle and thread.

As coach of both my recreational summer team and my high school team, Coach Ianniello has been guiding me throughout my entire swimming career. When I was five, she taught me the fundamentals of swimming and helped me conquer my fear of the diving block. During my junior year, she supported me as I struggled with body image and family issues. Although no gift could ever repay the compassion and guidance she provided me, I expressed my immeasurable gratitude for her through my hand embroidery and a thoughtful card.
